Update on Hive

The hive seems to be doing well.  We have not disturbed the bees . . . only observed them coming and going from the hive.

The first day after the install, the bees did not leave the hive. We installed them around mid afternoon.  Other than some stray flying around in circles, we did not see much bee activity.

The next morning, which was a frosty one, there was no activity but a dead bee on the landing board.  It made me nervous, but later that day when it warmed up the bees became quite active.

The first few days the bees ate only about one third of the quart of sugar syrup we made for them.  As of yesterday, they were consuming more than half the syrup in one day.

The bees seem to be sending out a lot of foragers and we see many bees flying toward the red maple trees along the roadway at the border of our property, or some fly off into the woods, perhaps directing toward a water source.
